Monkey House

Cottontop tamarins, white-faced sakis, silvery marmosets—the Monkey House is full of fascinating little faces, wild manes, and hairy ears! Meet busy troops of New World monkeys from the forests of South and Central America.

What to See and Do

Daily primate training demonstration
Schedule: 2:30 p.m. November–March; 3:30 p.m. April–October
Monkeying around is all in a day’s work for keepers who work with the primates on various behaviors that are fun for people, too.

Peek into primate playpens.
Our troops can often be found clambering across vines, foraging for treats, and exploring the boxes, baskets, and mobiles their keepers give them as toys.

See group dynamics in action.
Just like in your family, monkeys have various roles in their troops, ranging from babysitter to watchman to grooming duty.

Saving monkeys

Each year, tens of thousands of acres of tropical forests are destroyed to make room for agriculture and human settlements. Though more monkey species—a total of 85—live in the New World than anywhere else, they are disappearing as their habitat dwindles. In fact, one in four are endangered or close to extinction. Inside the Monkey House, you’ll learn what the Wildlife Conservation Society is doing both at the Bronx Zoo and in the wild to guard the future for these precious primates.
